I like it when I get jolted back to the present moment. I need that with my curious mind wandering off all the time. I become reminded that this moment is all that exists. Painting abstractly, for me, is about the process and the event of painting. It is reaching into the present moment, and my goal is to provide that same moment, that reprieve, for the viewer.  

A large part of this jolt comes from chasing the sublime. The feeling of the overwhelm of the overwhelm by sizing up my smallness to the infinite. And when I paint, I explore this sensation on whatever scale is in front of me.
