Inspired by the Year of the Horse, this body of work explores memory, motherhood, and the restless momentum of becoming. The horse appears not as a literal subject, but as something half-remembered—emerging from layers of color and gesture like an image from childhood that changes each time it is recalled.
For me, horses have always carried a distinctly maternal energy: powerful yet gentle, protective but impossible to contain. They evoke the women who shaped me, particularly my mother, and the complicated tenderness of being raised, loved, and eventually released. Through softened colors, loose lines, and figures that seem to appear and disappear, these paintings return to the emotional landscape of my youth while continuing to move forward.
The Year of the Horse becomes both inspiration and invitation: to honor where we come from without remaining there; to carry our mothers, our memories, and our younger selves with us—and still run toward something new.
This piece is printed on a thick, archival-grade polycotton canvas, hand-stretched over solid wood stretcher bars and finished in a wood floater frame.
We use giclée eco-solvent printers that are regularly color-calibrated for exceptional accuracy and depth. The result: vivid, long-lasting color that resists fading for over a century.
The canvas is acid-free and pH neutral, so it won’t yellow over time. Its bright white, semi-gloss surface brings out rich, consistent tones across a wide color range. A matte finish is available upon request and offered in both standard and custom sizes.
